'Welcome to Ernst Memorial Hall—a place where fragments of past and future converge, and where every perception and memory is preserved within objects.'
EMH trained in fine arts, and has spent years exploring how classical sensibility and contemporary life might converge within ceramics. The work takes everyday industrial objects and mass-produced goods as a starting point, studying their structures, their lines, their particular visual language, and translating these back into craft. This is not about creating disorientation, or about simple imitation. The work is drawn to the beauty of objects that have long existed in everyday life without much notice. Making by hand becomes a way of approaching the precision and order of industrial production, while preserving the gap that handcraft can never fully close. The near-match that never quite lands is itself part of the work.
